First Choice Holiday, Unijet, and Air 2000 Sign Seven-Year Contracts with OSI
Dateline: October 01, 1999
Orlando Sanford International, Inc., announced today that leading UK tour operators First Choice Holidays and Unijet Travel along with their in-house charter airline Air 2000 have signed seven-year operating agreements with the Airport's International terminal operators. The contracts were signed and finalized today at a special ceremony attended by OSIS, Air 2000 and First Choice Group officials.
The seven-year agreements will bring benefits to the First Choice Group's 100,00 passengers per year. First Choice and Unijet which are the Group's core tour operating divisions, will be able to provide arrival package information and passenger service assistance from the Welcome Center in the International arrivals terminal.
Air 2000, one of the UK's largest and award winning airlines will also benefit from the extension to its current contract, The airline, which has operated out of OSI for one and a half years bringing over 260,000 passengers per year, currently operates 14 flights per week from London Gatwick, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham.
"We are very excited about continuing our relationships with these exceptional tour operators and their airline. They have played a significant role in our airport's success in recent years and we look forward to building on that success over the next decade" said Larry Gouldthorpe, Managing Director of Orlando Sanford International, Inc. "These agreements demonstrate the confidence UK tour operators have in the Orlando Sanford Airport as a major player in the Central Florida region" Gouldthorpe added.
Recently, OSI officials determined that in order to help facilitate its growing passenger count, the airport would begin a $300,000 expansion of its Welcome Center. The expansion will provide international tour operators, like First Choice and Unijet better accommodations to receive passengers, will improve the overall aesthetics of the area and will enhance travel convenience for passengers. The improvements to the Welcome Center will be completed by 1 December, 1999.
According to Glenda Lamont Director of Customer Services for Air 2000, the high level of service and affordable costs at OSI are the significant reasons for extending the airline's contract. "Over the years, we have realized the financial gains of operating out of OSI as compared to other airports in the region. These gains, of course, allow us to offer more services and better fares to our customers" Glenda said.
First Choice/Unijet Regional Manager Liz Dickson sites OSI's passenger friendly terminal, and its willingness to accommodate for the growing travel population as obvious reasons to continue building a strong lasting partnership. OSI has continually gone the extra mile to provide us with the facilities and the opportunities we need to make travel fun and hassle free for our customers" Liz Dickson said.
Orlando Sanford International Airport is one of the biggest International airports on the nation and is an alternative "Gateway to the Sun" for Central Florida's large visitor market. It features unique time saving design features as well as some of the lowest operating costs in the industry.
